About the Theatre

Rangmandap is managed by the Nirupak Foundation, a not-for-profit entity sustained by the patronage of individuals and organisations who believe in the value of literature, theatre, and the arts.

Our work is guided by a clear purpose:
  • To promote a culture of theatre by providing and managing a well-equipped performance space with full technical support, offered at cost.
  • To support and subsidise aspiring stage artists, technicians, researchers, and allied theatre practitioners.
  • To host and conduct workshops, and to provide accessible rehearsal and workshop spaces.
  • To create a theatre resource centre and research library.

Through these efforts, Nirupak Foundation seeks to strengthen the ecosystem around live performance — not just as an art form, but as a space of inquiry, collaboration, and cultural continuity.

This work is rooted in a simple belief — that art is not a luxury, but essential to how we live and relate.

Philosophy

Science and technology help us live — but art gives us a reason to live.

A vibrant culture of art has a profound impact on the life of a town. It shapes not just what we see or hear, but how we think, relate, and live together. Communities that value artistic expression tend to foster creative thinking, imagination, and problem-solving.

Art creates shared experiences that build social cohesion — offering common ground where people from different walks of life can connect. It strengthens emotional well-being, invites reflection, and brings joy and beauty into everyday life.

An active, visible culture of the arts doesn’t just enrich individual lives — it breathes life into the town itself, making it more dynamic, inclusive, and human. Its influence goes far beyond aesthetics: it touches the social, cultural, and even economic dimensions of a community.

At Rangmandap, we simply want to be available — to all who believe in this idea and wish to be part of it.
